August 23, 2023: Sailing Center Update

We are excited to inform you progress is being made!

Construction of the SAYC Sailing Center bulkhead began in April.  The Official Engineering Approved Building plans were approved.  Big thanks to Shane Swart for his many hours finalizing the design, mitigating all of our Committee input, and with Brent’s assistance –prevailing through Engineering.

Construction of the Dock should start in October. Brent has contacted ACOE and hopefully we will have a permit within a week. Thousands of voluntary hours and over a million dollars have been spent making the Youth Sailing Center a reality. We are focused on Dr. Stanley and Catherine Paris cutting the ribbon in the near future.

You can Emblazon Your Name on a Future St Augustine Legacy!  For the next 2 months, you will be able to Buy A Plank for $1,000 (only 600 planks available). Your name will be engraved on an IPE Wood Deck Plank (also called Brazilian walnut) andplaced on the walkway of the dock. The $1000/Plank contributions are to support the building fund of the St Augustine Youth Sailing Center, a non-for profit organization, and are 100% tax deductible.

Make your check out to the St Augustine Yacht Club Foundation.

Mail to: 442 Ocean Vista Ave. St Augustine, FL 32080  OR drop off your check and form to the club Wednesday thru Sunday.  Please write PLANK in the check memo field. The plank form can be found HERE.

Time is of the essence. Contributions for a plank must be made no later than October 31, 2023 as the construction of the dock will commence in November 2023 and no further engraving can be done. The IPE dock planks should last 50 years. A one-time offering to have a permanent mark on the Sailing Center.

Any donation amount to help with the construction can also be made via credit card on our web site here: https://staugustineyachtclub.com/donations

Thank you to everyone involved, for the many volunteer hours, and for the enthusiasm and fundraising to come for the St Augustine Yacht Club Sailing Center.

April 27, 2023: Sailing Center Update

Construction has Begun!  Construction of the SAYC Sailing Center bulkhead began this week.  The Official Engineering Approved Building plans were received April 21 and these were submitted to the city April 24.  Big thanks to Shane Swart for his many hours finalizing the design, mitigating all of our Committee input, and with Brent’s assistance – prevailing through Engineering.

Brent and Justin have sent a letter to the Army Corps in effort to expedite the Dock permit that the Army Corps has had since Dec 2022. All other milestones have been completed, including submitting the Dock city permit – thank you Brent. More details to follow when fully approved!

Fundraising Chairperson and Committee Members Needed: We need members interested in being on the SAYC Foundation Fundraising Committee. We have 3 committee members, John Grannis, Sylvia Kellershon,  and Nicole Eubanks but we would love more and need a Chairperson to spearhead the committee. If you are interested in helping, there is a Fundraising meeting scheduled for Monday May 8th at 4:30pm the Club. If you are interested in being on the committee just show up and/or let John Grannis (jgfla1@gmail.com) know.

SAYC Foundation a 501(c)3 Charitable Organization (aka Fully Tax Deductible donations): Right now, anyone can easily donate, simply by writing a check to the “St Augustine Yacht Club Foundation.” Please note “Sailing Center Construction Fund” on your check. Donations can also be made via CC on our web site here: https://staugustineyachtclub.com/donations

Great News: The Youth Summer Sailing program is almost at capacity for the summer. Marissa Burrier has done a great job managing the program.

Winning: The SAYC Racing Program youth have been working hard and achieving exceptional success!  We have the #1 female laser sailor in North America, and 2 sailors in the top 10! At the last Jr. Olympic Regatta, one of our Opti sailors took 3rd place out of 50 boats from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale & Sarasota. Exciting that we are teaching seamanship to the next generation and perpetuating the grand tradition of Florida’s oldest Yacht Club.

More Great News: John Grannis found a deal on newer 420 sailboats and thanks to a donation, these newer upgraded 420’s will replace the older ones on the beach this Summer, and these newer 420s will be available for member use.

Thank you to everyone involved, for the many volunteer hours, and for the enthusiasm and fundraising to come for the St Augustine Yacht Club Sailing Center.
