SAYC Sail Team
The St. Augustine Yacht Club has an established Sail Team with multiple offerings: Development Team, Opti Green Team, Opti Advanced Team, and a 420/Laser Team.
Opti Green Team is where young sailors learn the rules of racing and begin their race team journey. Practices are centered around upwind efficiency, mark rounding skills, learning how to navigate a race course, and starting strategies. In a child's first few regattas their eyes will be opened to a new world of possibilities and goals to achieve. After winning a few races and once comfortable with racing and the responsibilities that come with it, sailors then graduate to the Opti Advanced Team. Depending on your child's age, they will race Opti Red, Opti White, or Opti Blue. Practices and regattas are more competitive and expectations are higher as the objectives shift from a learning environment to a more focused and strategic approach to racing. Opti racing can start as young as 7, and typically end when kids reach 14-15 or 135lbs.
The Club 420/Laser Team is for experienced racers typically aged 14-18. The Club 420 boat is both technical and fun, requiring teamwork and cohesion. These boats are used by college sailing teams and are a stepping stone to the Olympic class 470.
Clinics will be held for Optimist Prams, 420s and Lasers throughout the season as well.

Sail Team Associate Membership to SAYC
Sail Team Associate Membership is a seasonal membership that offers families a chance to join the club for the period of time in which their child is a member of the SAYC Sail Team. With this associate membership, you and your family are entitled to the following:

- Use of SAYC Clubhouse, facilities, parking lot, and fleet
- See clubhouse hours and proper check-out procedure for qualifying to use club boats
- See Sail Director (Marissa Burrier) for approval to use club boats
- Wednesday evening casual dining, 5:00pm - 9:00pm
- Friday Night Social events, 5:00pm - 9:00pm and other YC social events (see Calendar and Dress Code for SAYC)
- Consideration of full Family SAYC membership for the year
- Note limitations: Non-voting membership, Not Eligible for Officer of Board positions, Not Eligible for member reduced rates for other social activities, must have a minor enrolled in SAYC-sponsored Youth Sailing Program.
