About the Salt Run Flyers dragon boat team:

The St. Augustine Yacht Club is proud to have a dragon boat team. We started our team thanks to the generous donation by Mr. John Meehan.  Press the arrow button above to see how it all started. (our dragon still needs a name!)

We have just completed our second season and we have won two bronze and one silver medal. See the photo gallery on our home page for more details.

Dragon boating is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. Our boat is a ten person model that holds twelve people.  (there is also a 20 person boat) The crew sits facing forward and propels the boat by paddliing in unison. The boats can be traced back over 2,000 years to ancient China where they were used in cerimonial races. Today our team races in regional competitions or festivals.

The SAYC team; named The Salt Run Flyers, practices every week. (contact us for details) We have space for ten paddlers, a sweep (helmsman) and a drummer. Practices start right from the club as we launch the boat from the nearby boat ramp.  See the signup form below for additional information and to register. You are also welcome to contact me at 904-607-5670. We supply the equipment and training. You supply a desire to learn and a good attitude - while getting some exercise.

Come out and join the fun while getting a good workout.

Paddles Up!
